What is the best advice someone ever gave you?

My uncle Jim, when I was forced to retire as a Police Officer I had to figure out what I was going to do to support my family. The opportunity to go to a startup company called Switch and Data in 2000 was, in hindsight, the best decision I ever made and has shaped my professional life since that day. His guidance and wisdom gave me the confidence to take the leap and since that day I have had much success by putting in a lot of hard work, learning from many great mentors, great bosses and quality leadership.

How do you prefer to start your day?

In a perfect world, a cup of coffee with my wife as I organize my fishing gear and plan for a day on the lake. Most days, I settle for the coffee with my wife and prepare for what the business will bring my way.

What is the most interesting talent you have?

Teaching, coaching and mentoring female athletes. I have been coaching club soccer for almost 20 years and developed many very successful young ladies. Most importantly for me is coaching all three of my daughters and the time spent with them throughout their young lives and into high school and college. I have many long term relationships with my players and I enjoy getting updates on their academic, athletic, professional and personal achievements.
